I see your point. But I think you overstate Kanye's relevance. First, you say " he’s already taken steps over the coming weeks to get himself on the ballot as an independent or write-in candidate in various states". There are two things wrong with this.
You can't get on the ballot as a write-in. That's the point of a write-in, you aren't on the ballot.
Further, he has taken virtually no steps to get on the ballot. Several states, including some of the most important swing states have already seen their deadlines for getting on the ballot pass, including Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas.
Then, there are a number of important states where the deadline is coming up in a few days. For example, I live in Pennsylvania. The deadline is in a week. He needs at least 5,000 signatures from registered voters, that have not already signed for other candidates this cycle. That would mean gathering 10-15.000 signatures to make sure you have enough good ones.
That takes an enormous political infrastructure. You'd have to hire dozens of field operators, train them, cut turf for them and send them out. That takes several weeks to do well. He's done absolutely nothing and has no one even putting that effort together. He won't be on the ballot in PA.
California gives him an additional week. But there he needs about 196,000 signatures. To have a realistic chance, he'd need several hundred field operators working for months. So far, not one person has done one thing. That's not going to happen either.
At the end of the day, he may get on the ballot in 5 or 6 states, almost none of them swing-states. Since he won't be on the ballot in enough states to theoretically get 270 electoral votes, he won't be part of any debates. And not only does he have no field operation, he has no messaging, fundraising, or compliance operation either.
His campaign is basically just him, spouting bizarre nonsense every few days. This is not an actual presidential campaign, and given how seriously people are taking the situation we are in, he's unlikely to get more than a tiny trickle of irrelevant votes on election day.
