Why is Trump Constantly Doing Things for Money?

4 min readJan 25, 2025

When I attended law school, I had a friend (thereby defying TWO of mom’s predictions!). He in turn had a different friend (apparently you can have more than one?) who was involved in the Enron scandal and went to prison for stealing from the company. Happy happy! All is right with the world.

But here’s the thing. The guy who did the stealing had already accumulated many tens of millions of dollars in various forms of compensation over the previous years. Thus, it would seem that he didn’t actually NEED any of the money he purloined.

He had millions of dollars in assets and a job which paid, well, I don’t know the exact amount, but I’m guessing it was above minimum wage, plus he had dental! Really good dental! He could buy anything his heart desired. Cowboy boots, pickles, tickets to the ice-capades, Greece. Any of those things. All of those things.

Yet he was willing to risk, and ultimately lose his freedom and reputation to gain more money, which just seems so silly. How many cowboy boots can you wear? How many pickles can you eat? How many times can you see the ice-capades? For me, the answer is zero! How many whitewashed Aegean islands can you own?

The same questions plague me when I think about Donald Trump, (which, if I ever do again, is WAY too much).
